Workers Meeting at New Hospital Jobsite Enlightens Non-Union Workers of their Rights

Florida’s carpenter union staffers held a workers’ meeting at the Jackson Memorial West jobsite recently to inform these non-union workers - regardless of their immigration status - of their rights. Treating workers to pastelitos for lunch, Florida council’s Frank D’Angelo, Miguel Saldivar, Alex Jiron and Derek Rogers educated the workers and held a tool raffle. The job’s general contractor and subcontractor also looked on with much interest.

“It’s important that all workers are aware of their rights on a jobsite so that they not only are productive, but they are safe and properly compensated. We feel we opened the door for a lot of conversations to occur in the near future with these workers,” said D’Angelo, South Florida area manager for the Florida Council.
