A new state law goes into affect today throughout Florida that bans texting while driving. Now, police officers can pull over motorists if they see them texting. Prior to this new law, a driver could get cited for texting only if pulled over for another infraction. Now - getting spotted texting could net you a monetary fine. The law not only eliminates your ability to text, but it also bans checking social media or playing games while driving or even inching along in traffic.
Another new no-no: Any use of any handheld wireless devices in school zones or construction zones. When in a school or work zone, even picking up your phone can get you pulled over and cited. Apart from school and work zones, you can still answer phone calls and use your navigation software without attracting police attention.
Your best bet? Phone down, eyes up, stay safe.
