Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis announced the arrest of Miguel Porras, owner of Thiago’s Enterprise Construction Inc., for Workers’ Compensation Premium Fraud of more than $350,000 after allegedly concealing payroll to avoid paying a higher workers’ compensation premium. Porras is accused of collecting about $6 million in labor costs paid from contractors to his company but allegedly failed to notify his insurance company. Had he done so, Thiago’s Enterprise Construction would have been assessed an additional $357,129.00 in premium charges.
The Florida Carpenters Regional Council played a role in the investigation by providing information for Patronis’ team to examine. If convicted, Porras faces up to 60 years in prison.
